This will forever be known as Hulk Hogan’s last victory; a tag team match with him and Thiel on one side, Denton and Victor Vekselberg (google it) on the other. What it does with Jalopnik or OppoLock remains to be seen. Also, I’m posting this from the Bippity Boppity Boutique.

Kinja'd!!!

Indeed he is, Field Marshal Denton. Indeed he is.

I don’t think he had a choice (I’m sure he’d have like to). It seems like the trigger was the judge rejecting their case that the amount held in escrow should be reduced. For a company worth somewhere around $100M, needing to keep $50M on hand must be really tough, seems likely they were simply running out of money. This deal presumably lets him fight the appeal without crippling Gawker (though Denton would be wiped out if he can’t get the judgement significantly reduced).

I just hope Kinja survives along with Oppositelock.

They probably read about how to get out of a financial mess and took the advice from Lifehacker.

You getting the full princess treatment, including wax? I’m guessing you are a Ariel kind of guy.

I’ve always poo pooed the option of people bailing to Facebook or G+, but it may be time to set up the Oppo Emergency Command Center (OECC)

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being “cheech and chong were actually tweedle-dee and tweedle-dumb and the Cheshire cat is totally a really thing”, how high on hair spray are you?

And what about the sale of assets?

It might. It might not. Just know that if anything replaces it, it shall be 100 times worse in most ways, twice as good in others.

“Have you ever seen anything as beautiful as this, Mean Gene?!”

I wish Court TV had broadcast the trial, with Mean Gene commentating.

I bailed until Denton pulled the blackmail article last year, but hedging your bets is appropriate right now (not in Vegas Blackjack, though; that’s a sucker’s bet).

I asked for the Flyn Rider, but they told me it was just for kids. Ageist.

Presumably their only noteworthy assets would be individual publications. They could sell Jalopnik, but that’s not going to buy them much time.

If you have someone to watch the kid[s] you should take your wife/SO/BFF to the blue bayou restaurant thing. Totally worth it to get some time for yourself while you’re there.

Unfortunately, there’s no one to watch the kiddos (three girls, age 10 and under). Wife and I are already planning a “just us” vacation after the summer is over. We deserve it, dammit!

Yer damn right ya do! Have fun, and good luck surviving the trip. We did the same thing for my daughter’s 5th, I know how exhausting it can be.

Tonight is the last night here. Wife and I are seriously tuckered the hell out and welcome the sweet relief that comes with our home in Houston.

Just another 14 or so hours until we are at the Orlando airport...

Have to admit I’m jealous you flew. We had a total of ten people in our group so we drove, two cars and maybe fifteen hours each way with a stop in the middle.

Not all of us would make it here alive if we drove. I'm also quite certain that my wife would have thrown herself out of the car going 65 mph at some point just after Louisiana.

Is it really a bad thing if not everyone makes it? Oh wait, you don’t have the in-laws with you, never mind. To be fair to your wife, I would probably throw myself out doing only 65 through most of the south too. We’re on the left coast so we were usually doing 80-90mph and a lot of the roads are quite scenic. And we had movies and games for the kids.

I can do the upper speeds in Texas, no problem. But if you think I'm getting pulled over in bumblefuck Louisiana/Mississippi/Alabama/Florida for speeding in a vehicle with out-of-state tags...

Exactly. I had only Oregon, much of which was cop-free backroads, and California to deal with.

And this is why flying is the best course of action for us. No one dies, no one gets a speeding ticket/jail on a trumped up BS charge and had a cavity search performed by Deputy “Gentle” Ben Hatfield.

And small enough group that flying isn’t cost prohibitive. One of my co-workers is from Virginia, apparently the internet does not exaggerate how ridiculous they are about speeding in that part of the country.
